2 Tawarikh 14:9-13

Konteks
14:9 Zerah the Cushite marched against them with an army of 1,000,000 1  men and 300 chariots. He arrived at Mareshah, 14:10 and Asa went out to oppose him. They deployed for battle in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

14:11 Asa prayed 2  to the Lord his God: “O Lord, there is no one but you who can help the weak when they are vastly outnumbered. 3  Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you and have marched on your behalf against this huge army. 4  O Lord our God, don’t let men prevail against you!” 5  14:12 The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, 14:13 and Asa and his army chased them as far as Gerar. The Cushites were wiped out; 6  they were shattered before the Lord and his army. The men of Judah 7  carried off a huge amount of plunder.

2 Tawarikh 20:12

Konteks
20:12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we are powerless against this huge army that attacks us! We don’t know what we should do; we look to you for help.” 8

2 Tawarikh 20:23

Konteks
20:23 The Ammonites and Moabites attacked the men from Mount Seir 9  and annihilated them. 10  When they had finished off the men 11  of Seir, they attacked and destroyed one another. 12

2 Tawarikh 32:8-9

Konteks
32:8 He has with him mere human strength, 13  but the Lord our God is with us to help us and fight our battles!” The army 14  was encouraged by the words of King Hezekiah of Judah.

32:9 Afterward King Sennacherib of Assyria, while attacking Lachish with all his military might, sent his messengers 15  to Jerusalem. The message was for King Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of 16  Judah who were in Jerusalem. It read:

2 Tawarikh 32:21

Konteks
32:21 The Lord sent a messenger 17  and he wiped out all the soldiers, princes, and officers in the army of the king of Assyria. So Sennacherib 18  returned home humiliated. 19  When he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons 20  struck him down with the sword.

[14:9]  1 tn Heb “a thousand thousands.”

[14:11]  2 tn Heb “called out.”

[14:11]  3 tn Heb “there is not with you to help between many with regard to [the one] without strength.”

[14:11]  4 tn Heb “and in your name we have come against this multitude.”

[14:11]  5 tn Heb “let not man retain [strength] with you.”

[14:13]  6 tn Heb “and there fell from the Cushites so that there was not to them preservation of life.”

[14:13]  7 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the men of Judah) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:12]  8 tn Heb “for [or “indeed”] upon you are our eyes.”

[20:23]  9 tn Heb “the sons of Ammon and Moab stood against the residents of Mount Seir.”

[20:23]  10 tn Heb “to annihilate and to destroy.”

[20:23]  11 tn Heb “residents.”

[20:23]  12 tn Heb “they helped, each one his fellow, for destruction.” The verb עָזַר (’azar), traditionally understood as the well-attested verb meaning “to help,” is an odd fit in this context. It is possible that it is from a homonymic root, perhaps meaning to “attack.” This root is attested in Ugaritic in a nominal form meaning “young man, warrior, hero.” For a discussion of the proposed root, see HALOT 811 s.v. II עזר.

[32:8]  13 tn Heb “With him is an arm of flesh.”

[32:8]  14 tn Or “people.”

[32:9]  15 tn Heb “servants.”

[32:9]  16 tn Heb “all Judah.” The words “the people of” are supplied in the translation for clarity. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” here by metonymy for the people of Judah.

[32:21]  17 tn Or “an angel.”

[32:21]  18 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Sennacherib) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[32:21]  19 tn Heb “and he returned with shame of face to his land.”

[32:21]  20 tn Heb “and some from those who went out from him, from his inward parts.”
